Nordic Barista Cup Day Two Update!

This morning was a slow one for many, but that didn’t prevent all the teams and attendees from toasting up bagels in their huts and wandering back to the bar, er, common area, for morning assignments. As threatened, we would have to assist the teams in making their own coffee roasters AND grinders out of simple mechanical kits. Along with the help of our confused engineering student compatriots, everyone tried to make small coffee roasters out of paint cans and random parts, all without blowing up the propane tanks. Most of us succeeded in this…though I heard a small rumor involving the Iceland crew and fire.
Following these shenanigans we were treated to a traditional Icelandic stew/casserole of potatoes and fish and heck I dunno, it was sure delicious. Chase that down with another speed aeropress contest and a coffee porter tasting (choose from beer I, O, X or Y) and you’re really going to need a night of “competition/pool party/barbecue”. Luckily that’s happening in about five minutes.
(BTW, as far as the standings go, Denmark were in the lead as of dinner last night…but no one beat Norway in coming up with a “custom recipe” and making 39 Aeropresses all within 10 minutes.)
Barista Magazine is in House 6 (aka “animal house”) using our internets to help awesomely blog the NBC as well. Please visit their updates here!
